Third day of volunteering

I arrived at Crestmoor Elementary at 4pm. I arrived at the black top and all the kids as well as the fellow teachers greeted me. This little kid asked me to play volleyball as soon as I got there. I taught the kids how to play, and taught them how to spike and call for the ball so that they won't run into each other. After snack time, I was again in charge of the large group activity. We played bingo until about 5pm. Then after I colored and drew pictures with the kids. I cleaned up by mopping the classroom at the end of the day. I left the classroom at 6pm, making it two hours. So far I've volunteered for 6 hours and 30 minutes.

Second day of volunteering

I arrived around 3:45 pm, which was play time for them outside. I stayed outside in the black top along with the kids playing soccer, watching over their altered game of capture the flag to capture the cone. It was very fun and tiring at the same time. After the play time, it was snack time. I sat with another table that day, but I didn't get to talk to the kids as much because Miss Jackie(what I have to call her around kids) and I were in charge of leading the large group activity that day. We did various games with two groups of kids having to work together to beat each other in passing this heart shaped pillow. The special ed kids received help from fellow teachers, and all of the kids seemed to enjoy it. Some were super competitive while others seemed to get distracted. I was in charge of counting off and explaining the rules to them. We made up at least 5 different ways to play a game with the help of Ms. Lyn. A new special ed kid entered the program that day with a one to one teacher. After it was free time in the classroom, and I played Sorry with the kids. Then played battleship. I also mopped the classroom and emptied the trash again to the bins. I left around 6:15.

First day of volunteering

I went to Crestmoor Elementary School in San Bruno today, and volunteered for the first time for Parca. I had to fill out an extensive application that was mailed to me two weeks ago, but what took me forever to be able to volunteer was getting a TB test. I had to get a TB test and prove negative to be able to volunteer. I met so many little kids that day, and they were all very sweet. There were about 5 special ed kids, two of them were in high school. I came while they were outside in play time, and I helped Jackie set up the tables inside the classroom for snack time. I really enjoyed my first day because everyone was so excited to find out who I was and trying to talk to me all the time. It was a bit overwhelming, but all in all a very good experience. I helped a boy with his biology homework as well as helped clean up the play area which was a mess. I took out the trash with Jackie to the bins as well as vacuumed the place. I arrived at 3:44 and stayed until 6:05 which gives me 2.15 hours.
